How does counselling work?

Effective counseling requires a detailed, multi-step approach tailored to your specific situation and goals. Here is a breakdown of the various stages involved:

  • Initial Consultation: During this session, we aim to get to know you better and understand your goals. This session includes a mandatory needs assessment with your psychologist to help us create an effective treatment plan. We will discuss your developmental history, recent life experiences, academic or occupational functioning, and family background. The initial consultation provides a foundation for your future sessions so that they are tailored to your needs.

  • Formulation: We will use the information gathered during the initial consultation to integrate your story with the latest research and theories. This will provide you with a solid foundation for therapy.

  • Treatment Planning: As treatment progresses, your psychologist will develop a comprehensive treatment plan that considers your unique needs and goals. This plan will help you achieve well-being and happiness.

  • Treatment/Ongoing Support: With the initial needs assessment completed, we will explore your goals further and provide you with the strategies and guidance you need to reach your full potential. Your psychologist will teach you skills and provide ongoing support to help you achieve good mental health. We will also provide homework after each session so that you can continue to implement strategies between your sessions and get the most out of your therapy journey.

  • Relapse Prevention: These sessions will teach you how to maintain the positive changes you have made so that you can continue to thrive.

Teletherapy services we offer

  • Private Bookings

    $180 per session (50 minutes)

For those not wanting to go through their GP for a referral or just wanting to attend counselling privately. This option is for you. All of our sessions are offered online, so you can connect with a psychologist in the comfort of your own safe space.

  • Bulk Billed Bookings

    (50 minutes per session)

These sessions are available to all eligible Australians with a valid Australian Medicare Card, and a referral from their appropriate medical practitioner, i.e. a GP, psychiatrist, or pediatrician.

You can access up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

  • Check In Support

    $100 per session (30 minutes)

Check-in sessions can be a time-efficient option for therapy if you have limited availability or feel you no longer need an hour-long session. However, longer sessions are usually recommended to ensure adequate time for a comprehensive therapy session.

Recommended Fees

The Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. recommends a minimum fee of $300 per session for registered psychologists to deliver psychological services to individuals. However, we believe that everybody has the right to access affordable professional mental health treatment which is why we offer affordable rates.

All Australians are now eligible for 10 Medicare-rebate telehealth/ teletherapy sessions per calendar year.  To obtain the rebate you must be referred by an appropriate medical practitioner, i.e. a GP, psychiatrist, or pediatrician. You will then need to send your Mental Health Care Plan / referral to us before your appointment in order to be eligible.  We will provide you with instructions about how you can claim the Medicare- rebate.

We also accept private bookings through our website. A referral is appreciated; however, it is not necessary.
